Description

Easy and delicious recipe for a healthy tuna sandwich with homemade tuna salad, avocado, and pickled red onions. The best tuna salad sandwich you can make!

Ingredients

Tuna Salad

1 egg

0.3 red onion

0.1 red bell pepper

1 tablespoon jalapeños

3.7 oz (105 g) tuna, canned

2 tablespoons mayo

1.5 tablespoon creme fraiche

1 tablespoon sweet chili sauce

0.5 teaspoon chili sauce

1 teaspoon lemon juice

salt/pepper

Other

2 whole wheat sandwich buns

2 tablespoons mayo

0.35 oz (10 g) fresh spinach

4 cucumber slices

0.5 avocado

0.71 oz (20 g) pickled red onions

Directions

  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. When it boils drop in your egg and boil it for 9-10 minutes.
  2. When the time is up, drain the water and fill the pot with cold water to cool off the egg.
  3. Grab your favorite KUMA kitchen knife and slice red onion, jalapeños, and bell pepper into fine pieces.
  4. Drain tuna.
  5. Peel onion and slice it into small dice. KUMA Paring Knife or an egg divider is great for this (first divide the eggs in one direction and then turn the egg and divide in the opposite direction).
  6. Add all tuna salad ingredients in a bowl and gently mix together.
  7. If you want it more creamy you can add a little more creme fraiche.
  8. Taste with more lemon juice, salt, and pepper if necessary. Then set it aside.
  9. Cut and cucumber avocado into roughly quarter inch slices.
  10. Toast the sandwich buns. Then slice them in half with your KUMA Bread Knife and spread a layer of mayo on both the top and bottom bun.
  11. Build your sandwich with spinach, tuna salad, cucumber slices, avocado slices, and pickled red onions.
  12. Serve immediately.

Easy recipe for sandwich with tuna salad

The most delicious sandwich with a spicy tuna salad and egg which can be enjoyed both as a lunch or dinner. We spread the insides of the bun with some mayo and then build our sandwich with our homemade chili tuna salad, fresh spinach, avocado, cucumber, and pickled red onions. This is one of the best sandwiches we’ve had in a very long time!

Homemade sandwich recipes for the win!

In our younger days we always used to buy sandwiches for lunch in the local deli, always feeling that our own sandwiches could never match the one made by the “pros”. However, with the right recipes it turns out that making your own sandwich at home isn’t difficult at all, and you can easily match the quality and the flavor of the ones you buy out in town. It’s fun having made your own and being able to add your own touch to it, plus there’s a lot of money to save this way!

If you like making your own sandwiches like we do, we can also recommend trying our Healthy Protein Sandwich with Chicken & Cottage Cheese or our Avotuna Sandwich which is a fun and yummy alternative to the recipe we are covering here today. You could even try our Danish Smørrebrød recipe for a lovely open-faced sandwich on rye bread!

Simple family dinner / lunch ideas

These sandwiches are perfect for lunch or for dinner, and we’ve found they’re also loved by both kids and adults, making them a truly family friendly meal. It’s also the perfect meal to bring if you’re invited to a lunch buffet or picnic with friends and family. They’re so easy to make, they tastes delicious, and they are easy to pack and bring along!

Tuna salad with chili sauce makes the best sandwich

A tuna salad sandwich is pretty much always our sandwich of choice when we order out, and today we are making our own! As mentioned above, one great thing about making your own sandwiches (other than saving money!) Is that you can add your own personal touch. We’ve done so by adding chili sauce, sweet chili sauce, and a few jalapeños to our tuna salad, giving it a perfect subtle kick. Nothing beats this easy homemade tuna salad recipe!

It’s far from a boring sandwich as there’s so much going on in terms of flavor and structure. The avocados add a wonderful creamy taste and bite, and the pickled red onions contrast that with their slightly sweet and vinegary crunch. Just make sure that you get yourself a really nice quality bread / sandwich bun to really get the most out of this amazing sandwich.

Easy meal prep ideas for lunch and dinner

Tuna sandwiches are ideal for meal prepping! You can with success make a large batch of tuna salad and keep it in the fridge for 3-5 days. Simply scale up the ingredients to match the number of sandwiches you wish to make. That makes it very easy to create a finished sandwich when you need it or the day before (we wouldn’t create the finished sandwich many days in advance as the ingredients stay fresher individually). Alternatively if you do wish to mass produce and finish building them all at once, you could freeze them in freezer-safe bags or containers, and when you need a sandwich you let it defrost and then toast it. If you opt for this method, don’t add spinach as it’ll turn bad when frozen and then heated.
