The best recipe for simple Smørrebrød (smorrebrod, the Danish open faced sandwiches) with avocado and a delicious cottage cheese mix on rye bread. You can also top it with a boiled egg. A healthy, easy, and delicious meal that takes just 15 minutes to make!
4 slices of rye bread
8.82 oz (250 g) cottage cheese
0.5 bundle fresh parsley
1 red onion
3.53 oz (100 g) sun dried tomato
1.41 oz (40 g) mixed lettuce
8 cherry tomatoes
0.71 oz (20 g) green pesto
- Toast rye bread slices.
- Meanwhile, grab your favorite sharp KUMA kitchen knife and slice parsley and red onion into fine pieces. Mix this together with cottage cheese and taste with salt.
- Wash lettuce and tomatoes. Cut cherry tomatoes into halves and put aside.
- Remove avocado from peel and cut into slices. Drain sun dried tomatoes and cut into slices.
- Place the toasted bread on plates and top with lettuce, cottage cheese mixture, avocado and finally sun dried tomatoes. Place cherry tomato halves and a bit of green pesto on the sides.
Recipe for Danish smørrebrød with avocado and cottage cheese
One of our favorite types of Danish smørrebrød is the famous avocado version! It tastes wonderful and we often make it for a luxurious lunch or when dinner has to be quick and simple. It is healthy and tastes just wonderful. Don’t underestimate sliced rye bread for lunch or dinner. With the right toppings you can make these bad boys quite mouthwatering!
Vegetarian open-faced sandwich
If you want vegetarian smørrebrød (smorrebrod) this particular combination of avocado and a cottage cheese mixture is highly recommended. Our cottage cheese mixture is made with red onion and parsley sliced into thin pieces with our beloved KUMA knives - they always get the job done and make cooking less of a chore and simply more fun with those razor-like cuts! This cottage cheese mixture tastes great and works basically like a healthy and high-protein dressing, which is amazing. Finally, we like to top with sun dried tomatoes and then add some fresh cherry tomatoes and a tablespoon of pesto on the plate around the smørrebrød. Prepare yourself for a mouthful of flavor that won’t leave you missing meat or fish.
